The historical and scientific heritage of the National Institute for Astrophysics consists of books, archival documents and instruments which testify to the development of astronomy in Italy from pre-Galilean observations to the present time.

They are evidence, in fact, of the astronomical research that took place throughout Italy during the past centuries, of the scientific results achieved, and also of the contributions given by Italian astronomers to the development and progress of astronomy.
